YEAR 5

What a busy term it has been! Year 5 students have been working like busy bees to complete their classwork, homework, projects, assessments and they’ve worked extremely hard to sit their first ever online NAPLAN tests while fasting during the month of Ramadan.

In English, they have been learning about Persuasive texts, finding facts and opinions, reading different texts to find answers and looking at the different parts of speech used in the grammar. In Measurement and Geometry, they learnt how to locate coordinates on grid maps, read time on analogue and digital clocks, interconvert between 12-hour and 24-hour time, reading timetables, finding area and perimeter. They revisited basic four operations to solve worded problems in Mathematics.

They created fabulous art pieces using lines and printmaking. Drama lessons gave them an opportunity to explore the art of interviewing and video making. They acted and filmed their own chat shows in groups and edited their own videos using iPads which was fun. In ICT, they learnt how to use Bureau of Meteorology website to study the rainfall data of Shepparton.

As part of Integrated Studies, they visited the Water Treatment Plant to learn how water is treated to make it safe for drinking which gave them firsthand experience to see how complicated it is to purify the water! They enjoyed the excursion, it was fascinating for them. P.E. and sport sessions were fun throughout the term!

I would recommend all students to play outside during the holidays, read a lot of books, do their homework and have fun with their families.

Have a happy, safe and restful break.
